Security Resources
If you run a web site, it's important to keep up with security
discussions. People who want to break into your site use these
resources as well, so you've got to stay ahead of them.
-
World Wide Web Security FAQ
- Covers the important issues you need to know about running a web
server, and discusses some of the most common security problems that
you may encounter.
- Somarsoft Windows NT security
- An excellent discussion of security under Windows NT.
-
Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) advisories
- Formed after the Morris Internet Worm incident in 1988, CERT keeps
track of security problems and issues advisories on them.
- Yahoo search on "Internet+Security"
- It will take you a while to digest all the info that Yahoo has to offer.
Firewalls and Proxy Servers
If you're building a company network that you want to connect to the
Internet, you'll want to use a firewall to help protect the internal
network from intruders. The Web has plenty of detailed information
about firewalls and proxy servers. Our sister publication,
Network Computing Magazine, has a good discussion as part of its
Network Design Series.
Also, here's a great collection of
firewall information.
The definitive book on the subject is Building Internet Firewalls
by D. Brent Chapman and Elizabeth D. Zwicky, O'Reilly and Associates,
ISBN 1-56592-124-0.
